Travailers Unite

Hello to you all! Welcome to the Trail Travail Blog. This site will be for contestants, volunteers and spectators of the 25K. Last years participants are invited to share their experiences.

I want to know what your likes and dislikes from last year (no whining about difficulty!). How can we make Forest Hill Park easier for those who aren't familiar with it's labyrinthine course? What post-run party supplies do we need/not need? And what about swag? Some of you are bound to have a hook-up to get custom singlets (or T-Shirts), beer cozies, pint glasses or whatever sounds cool. Maybe you want to design the logo (I will take forever trying to pick something that is both cool and printable).

So anyway, let's fire this blog up and start counting down the days until February 2nd, 2008's 2nd Annual Trail Travail!

Jesse,

As the "honoree" of this race due to its close proximity to my birthday, I appreciate you putting it on. There were people that got off track in the park last year, one area that caused me problems was at the end of the first loop where you go out along the edge of the road before hitting the tunnel.

Also, I think that some folks may have taken a shortcut heading back up the river after collecting the beads. While I recall the course following the edge of the cliff, I believe others cut that portion off.

Several people got off track after crossing the bridge and ended up in Byrd Park rather than circling back to the river. I suspect that many had not done an ultra before and failed to heed the written instructions.

I have only run once since Bear Creek, but will try to start training this week.

No suggestions since I've never run this race, but I would like to find out some more information on it. I would love to run it and I know several folks who would volunteer.

Gee Gary, you should run the Forest Hills Trails more often. Then you'd know which way to go. The best kept secret in Richmond until Jesse exposed it. I did see some folks get off course but hey, it's a mini ultra, and what's a mini ultra without mini ultra runners getting somewhat lost? Thanks Jesse for putting this on, was a blast last year, looking forward to it this year. Do you still have pics from last year? Christie and I didn't get one and would love a couple to go with her "bronze" tennis shoe.

Jesse,
As a volunteer at the Reedy Creek Tunnel entrance I had alot of questions in regards to the route through FHP during last years running.
Could you possibly post a map or written directions on this blog so I can go out ahead of time and bike/run/hike the course so I can better explain to the runners this year??

Looking forward to it ;-)

I've run this course before on fun training runs and love it! (Love the work done on it too) I would definitely welcome doing this in a race format... removes the boredom of long runs as well as challenge what a runner normally views as a "hill!"
Thanks for organizing! I'll look for this race in rrrc.org.
